We have been out on the ice since dec. 21st 2011 with a hot bite going on for bluegills, crappies, northerns and a few perch as well. For the panfish we have been using small jigs tipped with waxworms or red spikes. For the northerns we have been using tip-ups with large golden shiners. Here are some pictures of the fish the last 2 weeks. Limits of panfish have been caught most of the days out. One day in 2 hours we ran out of minnows on the tip-ups from all the northerns we caught.

01/03/2011Bluegill fishing was great today ! We were fishing in about 3 feet of water with small jigs tipped with plastics and wax worms. We were in ice shacks so we could see the fish down the hole when they came in to the jigs. At times we had at least a dozen gills down the hole at once. Lots of small ones would be down the hole so you had to pull the jigs away from the small ones and let the larger fish get a chance at it. Tips for fishing the blue gills are mamooska jigs tipped with red plastics. 2 of the bluegill were 10 inches long.
